The Capitol Science program, designed to enhance the understanding of science of the members of the California Legislature, members of their staffs and members of the staffs of the various California State Agencies, has begun its work with a series of meetings with members of the Political Science Department and Institute of Governmental Studies at the University of California at Berkeley, and with representatives of California government. It is recognized that this program must conform to the needs, both scientific and logistical of the target audience and must begin with a highly successful first session in order to be establish itself as useful. We further recognize that the scientific staff of the BNNI research centers has little experience in state government and that we must proceed cautiously and with as much consultation as possible to achieve this success.
